Club You to Death by Anuja Chauhan

Club you to Death is a murder mystery set in a posh old club called the Delhi Turf Club in the old lanes of Delhi. When a personal trainer is found dead in the gym of the club, everything goes haywire. As the police try to solve the mystery, the hidden secrets of prominent members of the club start to unwind.

This book shifts its focus from one character to another, diving deep into their life and murky secrets. It follows ACP Bhavani Singh, in charge of the murder, who with the help of Kashi Dogra, a well-known lawyer and Bambo Todi, an elite member of the DTC embark on the journey to find out the killer.

3.5 stars – 🌟🌟🌟✨

The last 20% (when everything unfolds) gave me more excitement than the whole book. Though there was story build-up for the climax, I felt it was dragged too much. Unnecessary narration and information were going on side-tracking the main story and I was on the verge to stop reading.

However, the plot was engaging as we get to follow a murder mystery, romance brewing between childhood friends, a political mess, and many other events happening. This book gives a view into the life of DTC members and slowly unwinds the mystery as their secrets come clean. And I was not able to guess who the culprit was!

“And then ACP Brownie stepped forward, his face ekdum grim, and all my chakras started whirring and jangling. All I could think was one of us is a murderer. One of us is a murderer!”

The above writing style captures the character and language of the posh Delhi people flawlessly, with witty dialogues and different accents it was exciting to read something like this and I toh loved this writing style.

Moreover, the way ACP Bhavani’s character was written, a mild-mannered and compassionate officer whose presence makes everyone spill their secrets was something that we liked.

“If Bhavani Singh were an Avenger, radiating calm and sympathy would’ve been his superpower.”

The author in her acknowledgement said that she was inspired by Agatha Christie to write a mystery book. It can be seen in the way the book was written..the story-building, exciting finale and the endearing characters, especially ACP Bhavani.

This book was okay-ish in comparison to mystery books, definitely not for hardcore mystery lovers. I have heard good things about Anuja Chauhan’s other books and I’m looking forward to her other works, especially “Those Pricey Thakur Girls”.
